Kuranda is a quaint village located high up on the Atherton Tablelands. The town is nestled in amongst the tropical rainforest of Northern Queensland and is a must-see destination for anyone visiting Cairns. To visit Kuranda and this stunning location, you can take the historic Kuranda Scenic Railway up the mountainside and past the amazing Barron Falls, or jump on Skyrail Rainforest Cableway and glide above the lush rainforest for breathtaking views.

Visitors will find a whole host of shops, restaurants and cafes, as well as several markets with a range of Australian-made crafts and local produce to purchase.

There is no shortage of sights and activities for nature lovers in Kuranda. With Birdworld, Kuranda Koala Gardens, Honey House, and the Australian Butterfly Sanctuary, visitors can get up close and personal with the beautiful Australian wildlife. Kuranda also offers a number of trails throughout the Barron Gorge National Park if you prefer to immerse yourself in nature in it’s true form.

To learn about Aboriginal culture and the role the rainforest plays, visit the Rainforestation Nature Park, where you can explore the tropical rainforest aboard an amphibious vehicle that takes you through both land sea, as well as observe spear-throwing demonstrations and dance performances by Indigenous Australians.

 

Start your day aboard the famous Kuranda Scenic Rail to Kuranda. This historic rail winds through the rainforest to the quaint village of Kuranda. There is plenty of time to explore the village, including the Heritage Markets . Then for your journey home, board the Skyrail gliding silently over the rainforest treetops, with spectacular views the whole way home.
